1. Our Duty to God

(Exodus 20:1-11)

The first clerestory window in the left wall pictures Christianity's beginnings in the Old Testament, where we see our faith's connection to the history of the Jewish people.  This window expresses well our duty to God, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30)

What is our duty to God?  The answer is seen in these five panels which picture Hebrews who were examples of what God expects us to do:  Noah (Trust), Solomon (Worship), Isaiah (Pray), Hosea (Love), and Ezekiel (Obey).

Scriptures:

Trust Genesis 9:12-15 (Noah)

Worship 1 Kings 8:26-29 (Solomon)

Pray Isaiah 6:8 (Isaiah)

Love Hosea 3:1-5 (Hosea)

Obey Ezekiel 4:14-17 (Ezekiel)

1a. The Talents

The first parable window is Jesus' story of "The Talents."  As with the larger window above it, this window also illustrates our duty to God.  What are we doing with the talents God has given us?  Here Jesus teaches that each person should be grateful and accountable to God.  God's gifts to us are life, love, talents and resources.   Our gift to God is using our gifts according to His will.

Scripture:

Matthew 25:14-30
