10. Jesus Sends the Holy Spirit

10. Jesus Sends the Holy Spirit (on Pentecost Day)

The last clerestory window pictures the coming of the Holy Spirit into the lives of the first disciples and about 3,000 Jewish families. They heard the Gospel, repented of their sin, accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and were baptized.  This happened on Pentecost Day, a Jewish Harvest Festival.  On that day, the one true Church of Jesus Christ was born, and was empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring all people into a personal and saving relationship with the God of creation.

All churches and sincere believers of Jesus belong to the Universal Church which is essentially, constitutionally, and intentionally one. It is God's community of love and faith that manifests God's Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.

The fifth panel shows Barnabas and Paul in the Church at Antioch where the disciples of Christ were first called Christians (Acts 11:26)  The Holy Spirit set these two apart for the first of three great missionary journeys. (Acts 13:1-21:40)

10a. The Ten Bridesmaids

10a. The Ten Bridesmaids

This last parable window tells the story of "The Ten Bridesmaids."  Five of them were faithful and prepared with extra lamp oil for a delayed arrival of the groom.  The other five, foolish and unprepared, rushed out to buy more oil just before the groom arrived.  They missed the wedding and marriage feast. This parable illustrates the larger window above, which pictures the arrival of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus' disciples who were waiting in Jerusalem.  The Church was born on Pentecost Day when the Holy Spirit came into their lives, preparing them for eternal life.  Like the waiting bridesmaids in the parable, the Church today is to keep the light of Jesus Christ shining until He returns.

Matthew 25:1-13
