11. The Great Commission Window

The chancel window above the front gallery of the sanctuary pictures the risen Christ at the time of His ascension.   His last words to the disciples were The Great Commission recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 28:18-20 : "And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'"  The outside panels feature children with guardian angels, for Jesus said, "Let the children come to me...for to such belongs the Kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)

12. Jesus Christ is Lord Window

The focus of the window above the back gallery of the sanctuary is Jesus Christ who is Lord of the Church and Savior of the world.  He is the "Alpha & the Omega, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 21:6)  This is the Ecumenical window that pictures many Christian Leaders of various branches of Christ's Church united under His Lordship.  In the seven panels you see from left to right Pope Gregory sending Augustine in A.D. 597 to preach the word of God to the English; Peter and John witnessing to the Jewish Sanhedrin in Jerusalem, "We speak of what we have seen and heard" (Acts 4:20); Jesus Christ as the True Vine inviting all to "Come unto me...and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28); the Apostles teaching and preaching "Jesus as the Christ" (Acts 5:42); John Knox preaching at St. Gile's Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland on August 19, 1565; and Thomas and Alexander Campbell, leaders of the Christian Church Restoration Movement in America, declaring in 1809 that "The Church of Christ is One."
