2. Our Duty to Others

2. Our Duty to Others

(Exodus 20:12-17)

In the second clerestory window we see our duty to others as lived out through the historic events of others in the Old Testament. We see Cain and Abel illustrating the importance of respect, even when there are human differences. There's Joseph forgiving his brothers, Moses delivering God's laws of justice, Jeremiah encouraging his people to remain faithful, and Job, who in his suffering did not need the false judgements of his three friends.  God relates the message of 'duty to others' by giving the second greatest commandment, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Mark 12:31)

Scriptures:

Respect Genesis 4:8-12 (Cain & Abel)

Forgive Genesis 50:15-21 (Joseph & Brothers)

Be Just Exodus 19:7-9 (Moses & God's Laws)

Encourage Jeremiah 31:33-34 (Jeremiah)

Judge Not Job 42:7-9 (Job & Friends)

2a - The Last Judgement

2a -The Last Judgment

This window represents Jesus' parable of "The Last Judgement."  It illustrates our duty to others, which relates to the theme of the larger window above it.  Jesus teaches that as we do for others, even for those who some regard as the least important, then we do it for Him.  That means feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and those in prison, and welcoming the stranger.

Scripture:

Matthew 25:31-46
