3. The Birth of Jesus, the Messiah

3. The Birth of Jesus,
the Messiah

The birth of Jesus Christ, the greatest event in human history, is captured in the third clerestory window. Time is now measured as before and after the coming of the promised Messiah.

We see in the first panel the angel Gabriel announcing to Mary that she would conceive by the Holy Spirit and give birth to the Son of the Most High.

In the second panel Wise Men come to worship this child who is born "King of the Jews." (Matthew 2:2)

The third panel shows Mary and Joseph placing the baby in a manger.  His name is "Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)

In the fourth panel shepherds come to Bethlehem, the city of David, "to see the Savior who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11)

In the fifth panel Joseph and Mary are presenting Jesus in a dedication service at the Temple in Jerusalem.  Simon, a righteous and devout man of God, took Jesus in his arms and blessed God saying, "Mine eyes have seen Thy salvation." (Luke 2:22-35)

3a. The Pharisee & the Publican

3a -The Pharisee & the Publican

In this window we learn of Jesus' parable of "The Pharisee and Publican."  The pharisee depended on his self-righteousness for justification before God, yet he condemned others.  The publican confessed his sin, and depended on the mercy of God for his salvation.  This story illustrates the larger window above, which pictures Jesus, who was born to be the Savior of sinners.

Luke 18:9-14
