6. Jesus' Teaching Ministry
|
6. Jesus' Teaching Ministry (God's truth is revealed for all the world.)The first clerestory window on the right, just above the pulpit, shows Jesus as the greatest teacher who ever lived. The first panel pictures Jesus with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. Although she was living in sin, Jesus offered her forgiveness and salvation. He taught her about living water that would satisfy her spiritual thirst. The next three panels show Jesus teaching the multitudes the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5, 6, & 7). Thousands of people, young and old, walked many miles under Israel's sun to hear every word He spoke. In the window, you can see the awe in their faces as they marveled at His great parables and wisdom. Jesus' critics refused to believe His truth, but even they recognized His dynamic personality, His great sense of humor, and His boldness to teach as one who had divine authority. His words had the power to change lives and produce the fruit of God's spirit. The fifth panel illustrates Jesus teaching a young rich man the importance of giving to the poor. 6a. The Sower |
6a. The SowerThis window is the parable of "The Sower." It relates to the larger window above with the idea of Jesus as a sower, and His teachings, the seed. In the parable, people who heard His message were like different types of soil, some receptive to the seed, others hard and resistant. In true believers, the sower's harvest is abundant. These windows are behind the pulpit to remind the preacher and the congregation that a Christian Church is to be faithful to the word of God. Scripture:
